Conserve Energy and Breathe Easier
We all want cleaner air for ourselves and our children. Improving energy efficiency is one of the best ways to reduce air pollution. At UNH, we are most concerned about three types of atmopheric emissions. Sulfur oxides (SOX) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) are corrosive, EPA regulated pollutants that cause acid rain, damage to vegetation, ground level ozone, and human health problems. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas suspected of causing undesirable climate effects. Each of the types of energy we use at UNH produces those three atmospheric emissions in varying amounts.
It is important to remember that the emissions quantities shown in these web pages are only for energy consumed by building systems. The quantities do not include significant additional amounts of emissions created by our consumption of energy for transportation.
Your individual efforts to reduce energy consumption will help to provide cleaner air now, and for future generations.
