Where Does Our Electricity Come From?
The electricity we use at UNH is not generated at a specific power plant. All of the electric generating facilities in New England belong to an organization known as NEPOOL. With deregulation of the electric industry, a non-profit organization known as ISO-NE is administering NEPOOL activities under FERC guidelines. The NEPOOL generating facilities transmit power into a common grid to which all customers are connected. We can think of the New England grid as one huge "equivalent generating plant." Using that assumption, the following chart represents the various fuels used to generate our electricity at UNH.
